James H. Brown, Jr.
Mr. James H. Jim Brown, Jr., age 84, of North East, MD, died on Saturday, July 9, 2011.
Born in Westerly, RI, on June 19, 1927, son of the late Ruth and James H. Brown, Sr., Jim was very proud of his Narragansett and Pequot Native American heritage. As a young man, he served his country in a US Army construction unit during the Korean War and would go on to a long and fulfulling career with Boy Scouts of America as a scout ranger at Camp Rodney. An extremely talented woodworker and carpenter, Jim later accepted a position as a professional craftsman at the Tome School following his retirement from Camp Rodney.
In his leisure hours, Jim enjoyed computers and photography. He particularly delighted in riding and working on motorcycles.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Marie Cantara Brown, many extended family members, and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Michael Hazzard.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 15, 2011 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Entombment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, c/o Christiana Care, P.O. Box 1668, Wilmington, DE 19899.
