James M. Finner, Sr.
Mr. James M. Finner, Sr., age 84, of Little Heaven in Frederica, DE, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2011, at his daughters home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Finner was a US Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the USS Lawrence C. Taylor in the Pacific Theater. A member of the Modern Maturity Center in Dover for 25 years, he made many good friends there. He was loved by his entire family and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Elsie Finner, brother, Ellsworth Finner, sister, Mildred Davidson, children, James Finner, Jr. and Jackie Ann Finner, all of Delaware City, and a grandson, Raymond Finner. He is survived by his former wife, Virginia Ann Finner of Millville; daughters, Virginia Lynn Finner of Ocean View and Patricia Ann Finner of Elkton and New Castle; sons, Richard Finner of Port Penn and David Finner of Ocean View; 8 grandchildren, James Finner, Sr. (Elissa), Estell Finner (Jackie), Richard Finner, Jordan Finner, Sara Finner, Nancy Hall (Tervone), Brian Finner, and Caitlyn Cassel; 6 great grandchildren; 4 nieces, Diane Sienna, Sherri Hurd, Kathy Potts, and Donna Price; and 2 nephews, Kevin Finner and John Price.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Modern Maturity Center for all their kindness throughout the years and the nurses and staff of Delaware Hospice for their help with Mr. Finners comfort.
A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, March 11th, at Delaware City Cemetery, Clinton Street, Delaware City. All are welcome to attend.
