James R. Haggerty

James R. Haggerty, age 91, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 23, 2014.

Born on July 7, 1923 in Wilmington, Delaware, he was the son of the late John Haggerty and Helen (Demurat) Haggerty.

James was a 1941 graduate of Wilmington High School. He proudly served his country in the Army Medical Corps.

He worked as a pigment operator with DuPont Company, retiring after 37 years of dedicated service.

In his younger years, James enjoyed playing various sports and participating in plays and shows. Throughout his life, he was an avid sports fan and later in life, loved Big Band music.

A kind hearted and generous individual, James gave of his time freely in volunteering with many organizations. He devoted 38 wonderful years volunteering with the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

James is survived by dear friends, Jean Wooley of Wilmington and Paul Collins of New Castle.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In memory of James’ love and passion for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Vincent de Paul Society at 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720.
