Condolences to all of Jim’s survivors and especially to his children who are dear to Barbara and to me. I have many good memories of time shared with Jim “back in the day” when we were both old boys becoming young men, new husbands, and bumbling fathers trying to figure out all these new roles in life. We had a common interest in fixing things, learning how to become pretty good “handy” guys– we each learned a lot from each other. Our best joint effort was replacing Pat Madden’s bathroom on Ainslie Street. We thought we did a really good job there, but I guess Pat didn’t like our work very much because she replaced it again a couple of years later!
Hang up your hammer, put away your tools, and rest in peace, brother.

for pop pop. you were a frustratingly lovable scarecrow. i will teach sean and gabe how to play civilization this weekend, in honor of a man they scarcely knew but share so many things alike with. we will munch baby carrots and bottled water (in lieu of your butterscotch krimpets and cokes) and learn all about making huts, overthrowing despots and launching into the stars in space shuttles made with iron and steel, forged in our own mines somewhere out in um, russia.

we will always love you and miss you and hope you take your new gig in heaven very seriously…as chief guardian angel to gabe, the ferociously hearted yet fearless and sean, the boy with the biggest heart ever made by god. your grandsons knew the moment that you left us. and for them, and you, now you can be a bit closer on your new watch from the clouds.

xoxoxoxoxox queen elizabeth the II. long may her reign, um, not get rained on. aka coll 2. 🙂
