Jay W. McKinney, age 62, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 16, 2017.

Jay was born in Wilmington, DE on February 10, 1955, and was the son of the late John L. McKinney, Jr. and Margarite (Hetherington) McKinney. He made his career as an adaptive equipment technician and worked for many years at the Governor Bacon Hospital.

An avid fisherman, Jay spent many happy hours on the water. He enjoyed rebuilding hot rods in his leisure time. Jay was truly happiest in the company of his beloved family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored. He will be remembered as a truly caring and giving individual who went out of his way to help anyone in need.

Jay is survived by his loving partner, Joann H. Worton; son, Jay McKinney, Jr.; daughter, Samantha Hurd (Ryan); brothers, Bruce McKinney and John McKinney III; and grandchildren, Skye McKinney and Andrea Hurd.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, the Paracentesis Unit at Christiana Hospital, and to Dr. George Makar for the compassionate care provided to Jay during his illness.

A visitation will be held from 10 am until 11 am on Friday morning, September 22, 2017, in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.
