Jean Berlincke Geese
Mrs. Jean Berlincke Geese, age 80, of Newark, DE, died on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Christiana Hospital in Newark.
Mrs. Geese was born in Baltimore, MD, on June 16, 1929, daughter of the late Charles R. Berlincke and Edna Foard Berlincke. A 1947 graduate of Eastern High School in Baltimore, she remained very close to her childhood friends throughout her life and was always a vibrant leader in planning school reunions and other social gatherings.
In Delaware, Mrs. Geese was employed as a professional medical secretary at the Newark Emergency Center for 20 years until her retirement. She delighted in living in Newark and was very active in the community, particularly as a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
In her leisure hours, Mrs. Geese enjoyed shopping, listening to favorite music, taking trips to the beach, solving challenging crossword puzzles, and caring for animals, including her beloved pet cat, Sweetie Pie. She also believed in the importance of physical fitness, enjoying both Jazzercise and dancing well into her senior years. Most of all, she appreciated the company of people; she will be long and lovingly remembered for her exceptional ability of making each person she met feel valued and respected.
Her husband, Charles O. Geese, Jr., died in 1979. She is survived by her children, Charlean E. Ruiter (Brian) of Bear, DE; C. Richard Geese of Newark, DE; and Janet A. Juliano (Chris) of Elkton, MD; and granddaughters, Jean Wright and Jennifer Ruiter.
Visitation will be held from 3 pm to 5 pm on Sunday, June 20, 2010, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Monday, June 21, 2010, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 701 S. College Avenue, Newark, DE. Interment will follow in Parkwood Cemetery, 3310 Taylor Avenue, Baltimore, MD.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Geese may be made to Our Lady of Grace Home, 487 E. Chestnut Hill Rd., Newark, DE 19713.
