Jean C. Jester

Mrs. Jean C. Jester, of New Castle, DE, died on Sunday, October 10, 2010, at her home surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Jester was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on July 28, 1927, daughter of the late John Curran and Agnes Dolan Curran. She graduated first in her class from the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and began her career as a registered nurse at the close of World War II, working at the former Memorial Hospital in Wilmington. She would later become a full-time homemaker who delighted in spending time with her beloved husband, children, and grandchildren.

A devout Catholic, Mrs. Jester was a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima parish and its BVM Sodality. She also volunteered in the churchs food pantry for many years, as well as Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Howard D. Jester, Jr.; daughters, Elizabeth Tacy Jester (James Williams) of Great Falls, VA, Nancy Jean Nelson (Allan) of Middletown, DE, Judy Brucia (Jim) of Westfield, NJ, and Kathy Prokop (John) of Florham Park, NJ; sisters, Margaret Ariganello and Mary Montana, both of Georgetown, DE; and 14 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at the Jester residence, 7 Fols Crescent, New Castle, DE 19720. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Thursday, October 14, 2010, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720. A committal service will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave., Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Jester may be made to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, c/o Christiana Care, P.O. Box 1668, Wilmington, DE 19899; or to Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church at the address above.
