Jean C. Madsen
Mrs. Jean C. Madsen, 89, of Pleasantville, NJ, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2011 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE, with family at her side.
Born on March 13, 1921, in Chester, PA, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Christine Hubaj. One of seven children, Jean worked at the Sun Shipbuilding Company in Chester during World War II and in the Philadelphia area before marrying and moving to Atlantic City and Pleasantville to raise her family. She later retired from Prudential Insurance in Linwood, NJ, and enjoyed gardening at her home, traveling to many parts of the world and being with loved ones. She was a member of the St. Peters R.C. Church in Pleasantville, NJ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine Purnell; longtime companion, Benedict Gorchinski; sisters, Sophie Maley and Frances Mutz; and brothers, Frank, Edward and Joseph Hubaj. She is survived by her son, Clifford J. Madsen, Jr. of Wilmington, DE; brother, William Hubaj of Glen Mills, PA; grandchildren, Judith Boney, Joseph Boney, Michael Boney and Linda Carr; along with seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Saturday, March 12th, at St. Mary of the Assumption R.C. Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE. Visitation and interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Masonic Home of Delaware, 4800 Lancaster Pike, Wilmington, DE 19807 or to the charity of the donors choice.
