Jean F. Mancari

Born August 27, 1931

Jean Forsyth Mancari went home to be with the Lord on November 19, 2015, with her loving husband and caretaker by her side.

She was born Jean Eleanor Forsyth in Rochester, NY on August 27, 1931 and was raised in Watertown, NY. She is predeceased by her parents, Kathryn McGraw and Archibald Forsyth, and her older brother, James of Norfolk, VA. At age 16, she moved to Wilmington, DE and graduated from Wilmington High School in 1949. She married her high school sweetheart, Louis, Lukie, Mancari on June 02, 1951. The couple have 5 children, Kathryn Garniewski of Wilmington, DE, Louis, Jr. of Lynchburg, VA, James of Smyrna, DE, Jeanette Payton of Columbia, SC and Francis of Middletown, DE. She also leaves 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Jean had a passion for history that led her to research her family lineage. She spent many years traveling through New York, New England, Ireland and England to discover such notable ancestors as King Charlemagne, William Elder Brewster of the Mayflower and Joseph Buell of the Continental Army. She was a member of The Cooch’s Bridge chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution and an active participant in the annual Day in Old New Castle.

Jean worked for 25 years as a secretary for Hercules, Incorporated and was a member of the Hercules Women’s Club.

Jean was a gifted artist, baker and knitter. With quiet dignity, as a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, she volunteered her talents and countless hours in a number of ministries serving the impoverished, imprisoned, veterans and infirmed.

Jean was a humble, selfless woman who lovingly served her Lord, her husband and family. To her friends and family she was the quintessential Proverbs 31 Woman. ¦Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her¦

Family and friends may come to call from 6 pm until 8 pm on Monday evening, November 30, 2015 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE. DuPont Highway with entombment to follow at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave., Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations be made to a dementia research foundation of your choice.
