Born August 16, 1935

Jean O. Slaughter, age 79, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2015.

Born in Townsend, DE on August 16, 1935, Jean was a daughter of the late Delbert Webber and Clara A. Hadley Webber. After graduating from Middletown High School, she worked at the Governor Bacon Health Center for many years. Jean would then accept a position with Summit Aviation/Airport and then later joined the staff of the Delaware State Hospital from which she retired after many years of dedicated service.

Known for her excellent cooking skills, she delighted in hosting family gatherings and preparing delicious meals for her loved ones. Jean spent many happy hours crabbing with family and friends, a hobby she enjoyed throughout her life. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her brothers, Paul, Lawrence and Leland Webber and a sister, Rosalie Mocherman. She is survived by her husband of 63 years and the love of her life, Burnice C. “Bun” Slaughter; son, Chris Slaughter (LeAnn); very special and cherished granddaughter, Lauren Jean Slaughter; 3 godchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her favorite feline companion, Jack.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Wednesday afternoon, January 14, 2015, at the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 406 Main Street, Odessa, Delaware, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am until 12:30 pm. Interment will follow in Townsend Cemetery, Townsend, DE.
