Jeanette L. Hancock, age 58, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 6, 2016.

Jeanette was born in Salem, New Jersey on August 22, 1957, and was a daughter of the late William and Ethel (Allen) Ludwigsen. After graduating from Pennsville High School and Goldey Beacom College, she made her career as a secretary in the Legal Patent Department with DuPont for many years.

Jeanette loved the beach, delighted in climbing lighthouses and especially enjoyed visiting Long Beach Island in New Jersey. In her leisure time, she was a Scottish dancing enthusiast, experienced knitter, and looked forward to traveling and playing cards with friends. Jeanette lived for her family and cherished the many happy memories she made with them. She was a loving and adoring mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and will be very dearly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Jay Hancock and brothers, Phillip C. and Henry A. Ludwigsen. She is survived by her children, Tina L. Finch (Stephen) of Newark, DE and James A. Hancock (Jum) of Winter Springs, FL; sister, Shirley Bannan (Robert) of Greenwood, DE; brother, William Ludwigsen (Lynn) of Gatlinburg, TN; grandchildren, Emily, Anna and Jasmine; great granddaughter, Alice; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday morning, April 11, 2016, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will be privately.

  • Dr. Dan and the entire staff of Dental Associates, P.A. were so very sorry to hear of Jeanette’s passing. She was a long time patient of our dental office and we enjoyed seeing her and hearing all about her wonderful children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this very sad and difficult time. She was a wonderful lady with a great smile! We will miss her very much!   • I am sorry to hear of Jeanette’s passing. I worked with Jeanette for the past 15 years at DuPont. She was a very nice person and I enjoyed hearing about her grandchildren and her vacations at the jersey shore. You are in my prayers.
