Jennifer Lynn Fertig

Born May 23, 1981

Jennifer Lynn Fertig, age 34, of Bear, DE, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 21, 2015.

Jennifer was born in Wilmington, DE on May 23, 1981, and was a daughter of Peter A. Fertig and Carol A. (Ham) Fertig. After graduating from Glasgow High School, she attended Wilmington University where she would receive her bachelor’s degree in business. Jennifer possessed a strong work ethic and took great pride in holding two jobs, first as an operations control analyst at Bank of America where she was employed for the last 8 years and second, as a clerk at the Safeway grocery store in Peoples Plaza where she had worked since she was 17.

She was a longtime parishioner of Holy Family R.C. Church in Newark. Jennifer loved the beach and looked forward to spending multiple summer vacations in Ocean City, MD. She absolutely adored her nephews, Camryn and Jaxyn who were the apples of her eye and she cherished every moment she spent with them. A loving daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend to many, Jennifer will be dearly missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, William and Jeanne Fertig and her aunt, Susan Whalen. Jennifer is survived by her parents, Peter and Carol; maternal grandparents, Fred and Norma Ham; sister, Amanda and husband, Chris; nephews, Camryn and Jaxyn; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 Noon on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Holy Angels R.C. Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE 19711, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 12 Noon. Interment will be private.

  • Dear Fertig Family: It breaks our hearts when death separates us from the ones we love so much especially when they are as young as Jennifer. The Bible reminds us that God sees our pain and sorrow and has promised that soon death will be no more.(Revelation 21:4) He will heal our broken hearts by resurrecting our precious loved ones to life again.(John 6:40) May you find comfort in the memories of Jennifer and these promises from God in the days to come. I am so sorry for your loss.

  • Pete, and the entire Fertig family,
I cannot imagine experiencing the loss of a child. My prayers are with you. With a life of prayer death not only loses its sting but ceases to exist. There is no blackness. We leave this earth fully conscious, aware of the separation of spirit from body. At that moment all those Hail Mary’s will come back with interest. May the perpetual light shine upon the soul of Jennifer. May you find peace knowing that one day you will be re-united.

My heart felt condolences to all of Jennifer’s family and friends.
