Joan M. Larrimore, known affectionately by family and friends as Grandmom, age 67, of New Castle, DE, died on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at her home.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, on July 3, 1943, Joan was the daughter of the late Betty and Louis Lasky, Sr. She was employed with Christiana Care Hospital for many years before retiring as a cashier.
A devout Christian, Joan was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church, where she served as a lay leader, eucharistic minister, and member of both the chancel and handbell choirs. She was also a member of United Methodist Women, and, in earlier years, had been very active in the churchs youth group. She was a seven-year member of AA.
Above all else, Joan delighted in spending time with her beloved grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Louis Lee Lasky, Jr. She is survived by her son, Jack Larrimore and wife, Suzan, of New Castle; daughter, Joan Markland and husband, Mike Sr., of Newark; sister-in-law, Lucile Burris of Wilmington; nine grandchildren, John Larrimore III, Sam Larrimore, Matthew Larrimore, Nathaniel Larrimore, Thomas Larrimore, Kate Larrimore, Chris Piecuch (PQ), Michael Markland, Jr., and Daniel Markland; and a great grandson, John Morris.
Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 2 pm on Sunday, January 16th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, January 17th, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 300 E. Basin Road, New Castle. Interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Following the interment, all are invited to attend a reception at Asbury United Methodist Church.
