Joann C. Greene, age 68, of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2014.

Born in Pottsville, PA on October 20, 1945, Joann was a daughter of the late Joseph E. Curry and Helen Felker Curry. She graduated from Corpus Christi High School in Wilmington. Joann would later attend Cecil County Community College in Lehigh, PA where she received her associate degree. She made her career as a treasurer with the Bank of New York in Newark, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service.

An avid reader, Joann enjoyed books of all kinds, especially fiction. She relished time spent in her yard gardening and shopping with her sisters. Joann was an excellent cook who delighted in preparing delicious meals for her loved ones. Known as the matriarch and rock of her family, she cherished spending time with her beloved family. Joann will be remembered as a kind, compassionate and strong woman who went out of her way to help others.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Albert Greene; sisters, Helen Krammes and Janet Stramara; and brother, James Curry. Joann is survived by her daughter, Kirsten Greene of San Francisco, CA; and sisters, Linda Hudson, Sue Kleinman, Carol Vicario and Karen Malis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 Noon on Thursday afternoon, June 5, 2014, at Holy Angels R.C. Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE, where a visitation will be held from 11 am until 12 Noon. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

  • I was very sorry to hear of Joann’s passing. We went to high school together and she was such a good and kind person. I will keep her in my prayers.

  • R.I.P. Joann. I had the pleasure to work with Joann at the Bank of New York for a long time. She was a very smart person and a pleasure to work with. I remember when she lost her son and she amazed me on how strong she was. My condolences to her family.
