John David “Dave” Chadwick

October 14, 1919 - March 18, 2017

John David Dave Chadwick, age 97, of New Castle, DE went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 18, 2017.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on October 14, 1919, he was the son of the late John and Ethel (Tuthill) Chadwick. Dave proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Africa and Europe. A self-employed exterminator, Dave was the owner of Chadwick Pest Control.

Dave was a very gentle and loving person as well as a hardworking carpenter. Active in his community, he was a member of the Wilmington Manor Lions Club, Joseph B. Stahl Post #30 and a 32nd Degree Master Mason of St. Johns Lodge A.F & A.M. No. 2. He gave and received great pleasure working as Boss (Buggs) the clown at the Nur Temple Shrine.

In addition to his parents, Dave is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Raphael S. Chadwick; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Crystal Cooter; grandchildren, Nichole and Kenny Cooter; and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 am. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dave’s name to the Wilmington Manor Lions Club, P.O. Box 569, Manor Branch, New Castle, DE 19720.

I loved/love you very much…I’ll be with you on Friday to wish you a happy journey to Great Aunt Rae in your travel to heaven. I’m sure you’re there now. I’m glad my boys got to see you and get to know you too. I’m glad you got to know my boyfriend, Frank. It was very neat realizing how we were all connected and meeting my cousin Nichole and realizing that you were her grandfather. Such a small world.,…well till we meet again Great Uncle Dave.
