Died: 7/4/2010

John Edward (Jack) McNeal, age 69 years, of Wilmington DE, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 4, 2010, at Christiana Hospital.

Jack was born March 10, 1941 in Wilmington, son of the late Ruby Barnard McNeal and John William McNeal, and graduated from Old Wilmington High School, Class of 1959.

Jack was a member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 74 with 40 years service.

In his life, Jack was very good at pool and horseshoes, and enjoyed golf, bird watching, wildlife, and was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed boating and staying at his grandparents cottage on the Sassafras River, as well as night fishing at Indian River Inlet, where he made many friends. His desire was to spend this coming winter enjoying the Florida fishing spots he loved.

Jack was gifted at figuring things out to get a job done. He enjoyed remodeling and improving his home, took great pride in his home, and enjoyed the many compliments he received from family, friends and neighbors. He enjoyed eating out and trying new restaurants, going on bus trips to New York City, and reading or watching documentaries regarding ancient history and astronomy. He enjoyed people and sharing his own gift of gab.

Jack had a special love for animals, especially his four dogs: Ginger, Chipper, Jocko (his four legged child, best friend and companion), Angel (who was adopted from a friend and neighbor), and his current dog, Marcus, who is already mourning his daddy.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sue and Leon Wilkins, his sister, Janice Starkey, and nephew, Brian Starkey, of Wilmington.

Jack is survived by his companion and partner, Isabelle Choplick, his stepmother, Grace McNeal, brother, William D. McNeal, sister-in-law, Patricia McNeal, sisters, Susan Harman (Fred) and Sondra Godlewski Bradley (Stanley), as well as 8 nephews, a niece, 4 great nieces, and 6 great nephews.

Most grateful thanks from Jack and Isabelle to Dr. Matthew Burday for his special friendship, concern, compassion and care given to Jack for many years.
