John J. Witz
Mr. John J. Witz, age 83, of Middletown, DE, died peacefully on Monday, January 17, 2011, at his home.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, on February 21, 1927, Mr. Witz was the son of the late William J. Witz, Sr. and Margaret M. Cullen Witz. He proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II. A longtime member of the Teamsters Union, he would go on to make his career as a professional truck driver.
Involved in his community throughout his life, Mr. Witz was a member of the New Castle Moose Lodge and Post Cana. He also remained active in military organizations for many years, including the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans.
In his leisure hours, Mr. Witz greatly enjoyed cooking for his family, hunting, and caring for his pet dogs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Duane O. Corson Witz; his daughter, Duane Witz Willis DeFebbo; and siblings, Margaret (Sr. Mary Germaine), Nancy, and William Jr. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Geiszler Duffy Witz; children, Donna Saienni, John J. Witz II (Linda), Francis J. Witz, Anne Cline (John), James J. Witz, and Brenda Casper; stepchildren, Kathleen Morris, Maryellen Davis, Sharon Cook, Michael Duffy, Diane Marks, and Jennifer Pardue; 28 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 am to 10 am on Saturday, January 22nd, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 am at Holy Spirit R.C. Church, 12 Winder Road, Garfield Park, New Castle. Interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
