John James Hayes - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

John James Hayes

August 17, 1939 - May 20, 2015

John James Hayes, age 75, of Newark, DE, child of God and devout member of the Catholic Church, died suddenly on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, in the surgical ICU at Christiana Hospital.

Husband of Joyce Koria Hayes; father of John Patrick Hayes of Coatesville, PA and Elizabeth Ann Hayes of Boston, MA; and proud grandfather of Olivia Meadow Owens of Boston, MA. John is also survived by brother, Jeremiah Hayes and sisters, Marjorie Hayes and Catherine Hayes Farrell.

John was born and raised in New York City and was a graduate of Iona College. John was an avid golfer and longtime member of Three Little Bakers Golf Course as well as an ardent sports fan, cheering on his New York and U of D sports teams. John also loved music of every genre — except country. He will be disappointed to miss the Wilmington Jazz Festival next month.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am on Saturday morning, May 23, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church, 345 Bear-Christiana Road, Bear, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 8:30 am until 10:30 am. Interment will be held privately in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions are made to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
