John Joe Wohner, Jr., age 98, longtime resident of Elkton, MD, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 28, 2016.

Born in Bethlehem, PA on December 2, 1917, John was the son of the late John and Agnes M. (Marics) Wohner, who immigrated to the United States from Austria-Hungary in 1913. The family moved to West Virginia when he was a young boy and he was proud of the deep roots his family established there. John bravely served his country as a member of the US Army during WWII and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He spent most of his career working as a coal miner and would later accept a position with NVF after moving to Maryland.

An avid outdoorsman, John spent many happy hours hunting and fishing. He had a keen interest in both farming and gardening, excelling at both. A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, John adored spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lucille Lee (Thompson) (Eanes) Wohner and sons, Jimmy Frazier Eanes and Billy Wohner. John is survived by his children, June Martin of Jasper, GA, Sonny Wayne Eanes of Elkton, MD and Deborah Didehvar of Bear, DE; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday morning, August 4, 2016, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Cherry Hill, MD.
