John Lombardo
March 2, 1955 - November 3, 2016
John Lombardo, age 61, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 3, 2016.
Born and raised in Chester, PA , he was a son of the late Frank and Yolanda (Pompa) Lombardo.
John attended Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Grade School. He graduated from the Practical Nursing Program of the Chester-Upland School District and received his Bachelors Degree in Philosophy and Theology from Borromeo College of Ohio. After leaving Ohio, John received an Associates Degree in Nursing from Community College of Delaware County, a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Nuemann University, and finished with his Masters Degree in Critical Care Nursing from Widener University.
He spent several years as an instructor and assistant professor at Community College of Delaware County, Nuemann University, Widener University, and DePaul Hospital School of Nursing in Norfolk, VA. John was employed as a staff nurse in the burn unit at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. He then went to work as a staff nurse at Community Nursing Service of Chester and Vicinity. Later he went to work at the Visiting Nurse Association of Delaware . Prior to his employment in nursing education, he worked with various nursing agencies in Delaware County.
John was an active member of St. Margaret of Scotland R.C. Church in Newark, DE. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. David Council, a 4th Degree Knight with St. Gibbons Council, and a member of the Friends and Families of the Oblate Sisters of St. Francis de Sales in Childs, MD.
John was a fun loving person who was always willing to help anyone in need. He was quick witted and always had a smile on his face. It was difficult to get anything over on him.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Antoinette. He is survived by his children, Kristina and Joshua, both of Newark; sisters, Angelina of Chichester, PA, Anna (Jeff) of Norfolk, VA, and Christina (Greg) of Gap, PA; brothers, Frank, Jr. (Donna) of FL, Carmen (Karen) of Chichester, PA, George (Tina) of Chichester, PA, and Michael (Denise) of Chichester, PA; his life long partner and closest friend, John Day, Jr.; grandchild, Jayden; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. John was closest to his nephew, Jon Patrick Meister and niece, Tiffany Ann Meister, both of Norfolk, VA.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 11:00 am on Tuesday morning, November 8, 2016 at St. Margaret of Scotland R.C. Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE 19702, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
In lieu of flowers, especially plastic flowers, memorial contribution may be made in John’s memory to the Oblate Sisters of St. Francis de Sales, 399 Childs Road, Childs, MD 21916.

John always made me laugh when he visited at MAA. He was a wonderful person with a caring soul. I will miss saying” Hi Mr. L. This is Mrs. L”. I am sure the Angels took him straight to heaven as he was telling them jokes. We will miss him.

I remember John from St. Anthony’s Day Care Center, when Kristina was enrolled there. Always smiling and in a good mood. He was very thoughtful, too. I remember him bringing bagels and cream cheese for the teachers almost every Friday, a very much appreciated gesture!
