John Macey
Born July 29, 1940
John Macey, age 73, of Middletown, DE passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 9, 2014.
John was born in Wilmington, Delaware on July 29, 1940, and was a son of the late Onufrey Macey and Mary Dzunek Macey. A proud veteran of the US Army, he bravely served during the Vietnam War. John was employed as a meat cutter with Acme Markets and retired after 40 years of dedicated service.
He was a longtime member of the Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church where he was an active volunteer. An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed hunting and fishing. He relished time spent in his garden and tending to his yard and was an excellent bread baker. He liked a good game of horseshoes and enjoyed playing at the Delaware City Recreational Center. John’s happiest times were spent in the company of his beloved family, whom he adored.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Max, Michael and Nicholas; and sisters, Ann and Katherine. John is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Barbara Ann (Trush) Macey; daughter, Kristin Mary Macey of Middletown, DE; and sisters, Mary Crystal and Doris Scully both of Wilmington, DE.
A visitation will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm on Monday evening, April 14, 2014 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A second visitation will be held from 9:30 am until 10 am on Tuesday morning, April 15, 2014 at the Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1406 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809, where a funeral service will be held at 10 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, at the address listed above.

I can remember Macey being an extension of our family from the time I was a kid. Lots of horseshoe competitions with Macey, Dad, Sonny, Uncles Jim, Jack, & Ralph. Good memories. RIP John.
