John N. Iorizzo
Mr. John N. Iorizzo, known fondly as Poppa John, age 83, of New Castle, DE, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, January 27, 2011.
Poppa John proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II. In civilian life, he made his career as a teamster truck driver, working for Anchor Motor Freight.
Passionate about hunting and fishing throughout his life, Poppa John would go on to serve as a Range Officer at Ommelanden in New Castle. He was also active in Hunter Safety training and in the Young Waterfowlers program. He loved riding his motorcycle, and, in later years, devoted himself to his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Jewell; children, Tricia Werline-Barlow (Jeff) of Wilmington, Wanda Ellis (Dave) of Townsend, John N. Iorizzo IV (Cheryld) of New Castle, Juli Codding (Miles) of Hockessin, John E. Iorizzo (Julie) of Tulsa, OK, and Anita L. Iorizzo (Sherm) of Springfield, VA; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and Craig, Ramon, and Ronnie.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, February 2nd, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where visitation will begin at 11:30 am. Entombment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
