John S. Boyd
Mr. John S. Boyd, known affectionately as Papa, age 73, of Bear, DE, died on Saturday, July 31, 2010.
Born in Chester, PA, on March 5, 1937, Mr. Boyd was a graduate of Chester High School and later served his country in the US Marine Corps. He was employed with Scott Paper for many years and would go on to accept a position as a plant operator with United Water Company, where he retired. Mr. Boyd was also a well-known drummer in the Wilmington-Chester area and played with many groups, including the Guy Perri Quintet.
Since becoming one of Jehovahs Witnesses in 1979, he helped in the construction of three Kingdom Halls and spent many hours in his preaching work.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Elizabeth (Sabal) Boyd. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Virginia L. (Gotwals) Boyd; his daughter, Lucy Boyd; his grandson and the joy of his life, Steven Dobrzynski; his brother, George Boyd; 3 nephews; 2 nieces; and many, many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 12, 2010, at Red Lion Kingdom Hall, 2101 Red Lion Road, Bear, DE.
