John T. Gordon

Born December 27, 1930

John T. Gordon, age 85, of Millsboro, DE and formerly of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully at home, while surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 12, 2016.

A native Delawarean, John was born in Wilmington on December 27, 1930, and was the son of the late William and Rebecca (Whittington) Gordon. He made his career as a hardwood floor finisher and was known for his strong work ethic and expertise in the field.

Active in the volunteer fire community, John was a life member of Minquadale Fire Company where he served in a number of leadership positions including Chief and Line Officer. He was a longtime member of American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro. An avid outdoorsman, John adored the beach, fishing, boating and clamming. He enjoyed golfing and bowling in his leisure time. Whether he was at a family gathering or spending time with his grandchildren, John was happiest in the company of his loved ones. He will be very dearly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Grzybowski. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Irene (Fasczewski) Gordon; children, John Gordon III (Irene) of New Castle, DE, Gary Gordon (Sheila) of Millsboro, DE and June Ogden (Jim) of Newark, DE; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Monday afternoon, January 18, 2016, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 Noon until 1 pm. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s memory may be made to the Minquadale Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 647, Manor Branch, New Castle, DE 19720.

  • Poppop you will be dearly missed. I remember sitting at the table with you until all the dinner I chose was off my plate, clamming with you and mommom on the boat, and sitting on your lap when you would let me drive. Memories I will cherish forever. May you rest in peace and watch over all of us. Love you Poppop.
