Joseph A. Huss, age 63, of Newark, DE, passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, in the care of Seasons Hospice at Christiana Hospital. He was supported by friends and family all throughout his valiant battle with cancer, loved by all and still sharing his love for all.

Joe graduated from Henderson High School West Chester in 1972. He married Judi Burns in 1972, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1975. Joe spent the next four years serving our country and developing a wide variety of special skills as a Petty Officer 3rd class, assigned to the Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron (nicknamed the Firebirds VAQ 33), where he worked as an Aviation Structural Mechanic (AMS3). He was honorably discharged in June of 1979.

Joe made his career with Pool Care Specialists as a Field Supervisor, certified by the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals (APSP). After 30 years in the business, he retired in 2015 and started his own handyman business, Joe’s Toolbox.

Joe enjoyed a variety of activities including flower and vegetable gardening, bike riding, walking, camping, gourmet cooking, woodworking and backgammon. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn Laird Moss; brother, Robert Huss (Sharon); sons, Ian Huss, Bryan Zimmerman (Melissa) and Rob Zimmerman; daughter, Heidi Johnson; 7 grandchildren; and numerous cousins and their families. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Rose Huss; and wife, Linda Huss.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their loving and caring gestures, for beautiful music, and for reassuring spiritual words of God’s love and comfort, all of which helped Joe to pass peacefully and painlessly.

A private committal service and interment will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 2:00 pm until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at The Art Farm, 801 Valley Road, Newark, DE 19711. Friends, colleagues, and immediate family are invited to attend.

7 Condolences for Joseph A. Huss

  • Joseph, I love and miss you so much.

  • To the Huss family, please accept my sincere condolences. The pain we experience when we lose someone close is unnatural. But it is comforting that our heavenly father promises to do something about it (1 Corinthians 15:26). A positive thought to reflect on is the future hope that he extends to all (John 5:28,29).

  • I was honored to have met this lovely, gentle man. My sincere condolences to all his family and friends.

  • A brother in law for 42years. Love you Joseph

  • What a great yet very humble man. We will surely miss Him. Rose Ann & Uncle Frankie

  • An absolutely wonderful man full of enjoyment for life and love which he generously shared. Joe was a gift to all of us who spent any time with him. My deepest sympathy to Lynn, his family and friends.

  • I had some free time today and was going to try and call you again because I had not heard from you in a while. And with a sadden and heavy heart I read that you passed away after your fight with cancer. I will always remember the good and bad times we spent in boot camp and then when we both served in Virginia, you in Norfolk and I at Virginia Beach. The long drives to come home for the weekend in the Bonniville… We had just reconnected last year and I got to see you a few times and talked about the old times.. To your family and friends, I send my prays and wanted you to know that Joe was a really great guy and friend. Fair winds and following seas shipmate. we have the watch. Rest in peace and pain free
