Joseph G. Worton, age 85, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2018.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on October 1, 1933, he was a son of the late Gerald and Dorothy (Armour) Worton. Joe served in the U.S. Navy in Korea and spent his career as a Philadelphia fireman and achieved the rank of Deputy Chief.

A devout Catholic, Joe spent many hours volunteering at St. Margaret of Scotland R.C. Church and the Hope Dining Room. He was happiest when he was spending time with family and friends, especially friends from St. Margaret’s church group. Joe will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Anna Helen (Torba) Worton; brother, Robert Worton; and great granddaughter, Regina Ann LoMonaco. Joe is survived by his children, Daniel Worton (Doreen), Joanne Yankovoy (Michael), John Worton, Stephen Worton (Jennifer) and Joseph Worton, Jr. (Susan); brother, David Worton; sister, Doris Gicking; 10 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 AM until 11 AM on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at St. Margaret of Scotland R.C. Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE 19702, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 AM. Interment will follow at 1 PM in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joe’s memory to St. Margaret of Scotland R.C. Church at the address listed above
