Joseph J. Kuenzle

Born August 9, 1923

Joseph J. Kuenzle, known fondly as Joe, age 91, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2015.

Born in Fair Hill, MD on August 9, 1923, Joe was the son of the late James Kuenzle and Mary Ellen (Holland) Kuenzle. After graduating from Kenmore High School, he bravely served his country as a member of the US Army 101st Airborne Division during WWII. A self-employed and talented auto mechanic, Joe was the owner of Joe’s Texaco in Newark for many years prior to joining the staff of AMC Jeep, also located in Newark.

He was a charter member of Kingswood United Methodist Church, where he was active in his congregation. In his leisure time, Joe enjoyed bowling, golf, gardening, visiting Delaware Park and traveling. He was an avid supporter of the University of Delaware Blue Hens and enjoyed attending football games. Above all else, Joe was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who adored spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Sall. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Pauline (McIntire) Kuenzle; children, Louise Bachman (Jim) of Killeen, TX, Ed Kuenzle of Newark, DE and Paula Kuenzle of Newark, DE; sister, Virginia Korstange of Battle Creek, MI; and grandson, Trevor Bachman.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Seasons Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to Joe during his illness.
