Joseph W. Hojnicki, Jr.

Born December 10, 1953

Joseph W. Hojnicki, Jr., age 61, of West Allis, WI and formerly of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 22, 2015, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

A native Delawarean, Joe was born in Wilmington on December 10, 1953, and was a son of Joseph W. and Irene Hojnicki, Sr. He worked as a personal trainer for individuals with disabilities at the YMCA of Greensfield, WI.

Joe grew up in a firefighting family and he continued that tradition as a lifetime member and past president of Minquadale Volunteer Fire Company. His diagnosis of retinitis pigmentosa or RP, did not stop him from persuing his passion for the sports he loved “ golf and skiing or from playing the saxophone. An avid golfer, Joe was honored by being named the American Blind Golf Association Player of the Year in 2014. Above all else, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother and grandfather and will be very dearly missed by all who knew him.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Joe, Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Hojnicki; mother, Irene; daughter, Laura Bennett and husband, Ken of Dover, DE; son, John Hojnicki and wife, Tonya of Clarksville, TN; step daughter, Annie Matte of West Allis, WI; sisters, Patti Addison and husband, Carl of Wilmington, DE and Diane Thompson and husband, Chris of New Castle, DE; brother, Michael Hojnicki and wife, Barbi of Bear, DE; 6 grandchildren, Morgan, Taylor, Brianna, Dallas, Abigail and Alexis; and 1 niece, 3 nephews and many friends.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 pm on Wednesday evening, July 15, 2015, at the Minquadale Volunteer Fire Company, 129 E Hazeldell Ave, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:30 pm until 6:30 pm. A reception will immediately follow the service in the memorial hall.
