Josephine M. Curran

Born March 29, 1931

Josephine M. Curran, age 83, of Wilmington, DE and formerly of Wilmington Manor, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at the Brandywine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Mt. Holly, New Jersey on March 29, 1931, Dolly was a daughter of the late James Badame and Josephine Barbera. She made her career as a school librarian at Our Lady of Fatima School in New Castle and retired after 20 years of dedicated service.

Dolly was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church. Active in her community, she served as a den mother and volunteer for over 30 years with Boy Scouts of America and was awarded the Order of Merit in 1972. Dolly also volunteered her time with Meals on Wheels for many years. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother who will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James H. Curran, daughter, Cynthia J. Curran, a brother, Louis Badame and a sister, Cynthia Franz. Dolly is survived by her daughter, Agnes A. Curran of Des Moines, IA; son, James M. Curran (Karen) of North East, MD; brothers, Paul Badame (Doug) of Baton Rouge, LA and Richard Badame (Joyce) of Sicklerville, NJ; sisters, Sandra Woolson (Charlie) of Holland, PA, Barbara DiPaolo (Rocky) of Woolwick, NJ, Joanne Troiani (Frank) of Cherry Hill, NJ, Lucille Huber (Joe) of Felton, DE and Linda DiPatre of Camden, NJ; grandchildren, Benjamin James Curran and Claire Elizabeth Curran; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A committal service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday morning, April 15, 2014 at the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Easter Seals Society, 61 Corporate Circle, New Castle, DE 19720.

  • So sorry to hear of the loss of your dear loved one. I too have experienced that deep pain of loss. So, I look for ways to comfort others. I hope that you may find comfort in Job 14:14,15, which assures us that Almighty God has not only the power, but the desire to resurrect our dear loved ones.
