Mrs. Josephine R. (Cassetta) Thomas, age 84, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011, at Christiana Hospital.


Mrs. Thomas was born in Wilmington, DE, on July 22, 1926, to the late Anthony Cassetta and Rose DiJoseph Cassetta. A dedicated and talented homemaker, she delighted in caring for her family.


Mrs. Thomas possessed a gentle spirit that was admired by all who met her. Friends were drawn to her compassionate and caring nature, and instantly became a part of her extended family. In her leisure hours, she greatly enjoyed tending the garden in her yard. Mrs. Thomas was a longtime member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church and a former member of the Our Lady of Fatima Sodality and choir. Above all else, she adored spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and great grandchildren.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Patrick Cassetta and Frank, Andrew, and John Fresconi; and sisters, Antoinette Smith and Mary Fresconi. Mrs. Thomas is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Robert E. Thomas; daughter, Kathleen T. Christopher (Ted) of New Castle, DE; son, Robert W. Thomas (Tracy) of Bear, DE; sister-in-law, Kay Fresconi; grandchildren, Ted R. Christopher, II (Lisa) of New Castle, DE, Brent Christopher (Jennifer) of New Castle, DE, Christine N. Quillen (Dave) of Bear, DE, Rebecca R. Thomas of Newport, DE, and Robert M. Thomas of Bear, DE; and great grandchildren, Colby, Damian, Seth, Delaney, Paige, and Morgan Faye. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at 12 Noon, at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic church, 801 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE where friends may call from 11 am to 12 Noon. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
