Joyce M. Perkins

March 3, 1960 - December 7, 2018

Joyce M. Perkins, age 58, of Bear, DE, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, December 7, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Wilmington, DE on March 3, 1960, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Shirley (Brooks) Murphy. Joyce worked for AIG for more than 22 years.

Joyce was an avid sports fan and in her earlier years enjoyed bowling and playing softball. On any given day you could find her on the sidelines or in the stands supporting her sons and grandchildren at their own events. Even at home you could bet there was always a game or match on TV. Friday nights were reserved for dinner and drinks with Rose and sister Janice; a tradition that they have continued for years. In the summer you could find her at her happy place, her camper at the beach. She enjoyed the drive on beach at Cape Henlopen, surrounded by family and friends. Joyce had an eye for fashion and loved to decorate her home. She was always perfectly put together and accessorized with a simple scarf, a fun pair of socks, the perfect shoes, and handbag to match. Her home was always decorated for the current season and more so during the holidays. She made sure to make all that enter feel welcomed, surrounded with love and laughter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and soul mate, Daniel R. Perkins and brothers, Michael R. Murphy and Ralph H. Murphy, Jr. Joyce is survived by her sons, Daniel R.M. Perkins (Courtney Kelly) and Bryan J.M. Perkins (Lauren); brother, Scott D. Murphy (Stephanie); sister, Janice L. Murphy (Rose Mili); grandchildren, Ryan M. Perkins, Nolan, Shawn and Juliana Roy; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:30 am until 11 am on Friday, December 14, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church of Newark, 292 West Main St, Newark, DE, where a funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joyce’s memory to the ALS Association, Greater Philadelphia Chapter, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002.

  • I’m heartbroken at Joyce’s passing.

She was my Administrative Assistant in my first managerial job at AIG. She was always loyal and made my work life a lot easier.

Both she and Dan loved their boys so much and dedicated their lives to them.

Joyce- May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest and may you join Dan in heaven.
