Juanita (Alley) Larry

Juanita (Alley) Larry, age 86, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, May 21, 2015.
Born in West Virginia on January 27, 1929, Mrs. Larry was a daughter of the late Claude H. Alley and Susie (Smith) Alley. A career educator whose dedication to her students was most prominent in her life, she taught for more than 30 years in the Red Clay Consolidated School District prior to her retirement.
Mrs. Larry was an avid flower gardener and like many teachers, loved decorating for the holidays. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, including her faithful canine companion, Ben. Fondly remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend to many, Mrs. Larry will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Larry, a sister, Dorothy M. Johnson and brothers, William R. Alley and Claude H. Alley, Jr. Mrs. Larry is survived by her children, Frank J. Larry, Jr. (Karen Clark) of Cincinnati, OH, Anita L. Cutonilli (Robert Webster) of Newark and Vickie L. Rasnic (Joseph) of Newark; sister, Peggy Beers (Frank) of Newark; 9 grandchildren, Nick, Luke, Alexis Samantha, Mitty, Emma, Melanie, Sarah and Mason; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday morning, May 26, 2015, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Entombment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Read Aloud Delaware, 100 West 10th St., Suite 309, Wilmington, DE 19801.

I will always remember the visits with Mom & Dad we made to see Aunt Juanita & Uncle Frank in DE. Fond memories of playing the accordion with Frankie on the guitar and everyone singing along! I still remember the great meals by Aunt Juanita & my Mother. It was such fun playing with Frankie, Anita & Vicki!
Kay & I took our 6 month old daughter, Cathy, to meet Aunt Juanita & Uncle Frank. They made us feel so welcome! We spent most of our time catching up and getting to know Anita & Vicki. We had a Great time & lots of laughing!
I just wish that we could have done more visiting through the years!
We will miss Aunt Juanita, so much!

I will always remember when Uncle Frank brought new girlfriend Juanita to our house for the obligatory Sunday dinner meeting. My Mom prayed that her younger brother would meet and marry a “good” girl. Mom was absolutely thrilled and thought her many prayers were answered. Mom was not shy to provide inputs, and advocated that this was the right girl.
Aunt Juanita and Mom became close friends and really respected each other. I remember Aunt Juanita being somewhat quiet, but always having good advice for me in my studies and future plans. She was a great lady and will be sorely missed by many.

A Tribute for Juanita: Family and Friends,
The mediocre teacher tells, the good teacher explains, the superior teacher demonstrates, and the great teacher inspires. She was a teacher. From her early 20s until May 21, 2015, she taught everyday of her adult life. She taught many to read, to write, and to cipher; while others were taught lessons of life not from textbooks, such as the appreciation of music, the value of family traditions, and taking pride in oneself. She never left her home without looking her best nor would she let one weed grow among her yard of flowers.
It was in her final months of life that she taught us life’s greatest lesson–life is worth the fight. She fought a long hard battle. She struggled everyday to teach us to live life. When the time of death neared, she knew the school day was over and it was time to go home. If she were here today, she would write across blackboard this lesson: Write 50 times on your paper—Fight each day to live life to its fullest because there may not be a next! There is no one quite like a special teacher, and no teacher ever as special as you Mom.

To the Larry,
i used to place student teachers in her classroom as part of the student teaching experience. When I placed someone there, he/she had the finest of the fine teaching experience from Juanita. No one loved teachng as much as she did. Even more than that she loved to see every child grow in learning. What a fine role model and teacher she was.
In the other world, I see her teaching people who didn’t master reading. She was so committed and perservering that I know they would read. She was also a classy lady, an inspiration to all. She will be greatly missed.

I was a student teacher fortunate enough to be placed in Juanita Larry’s first grade classroom at Forest Oak Elementary School in 1990. She was the epitomy of a wonderful teacher. I learned so much from her -setting up a classroom conducive to learning, getting to know each of the students, lesson planning and preparation, classroom management, etc… I aspired to be just like her when I got my first teaching job in Montgomery County Maryland as a first grade teacher.
