Juanita J. (Barker) Roop, age 84, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 17, 2016.

Born in Marion, VA on August 10, 1931, Mrs. Roop was a daughter of the late D.P. and Beulah (Reed) Barker. She devoted her life to caring for her family and was a talented homemaker.

In her leisure time, Mrs. Roop enjoyed trips to Delaware Park, going out for dinner, spending time on her front porch admiring her flowers, ceramics and playing cards. She adored the holidays and looked forward to gathering her loved ones together to share a delicious home-cooked meal. An avid animal lover, Mrs. Roop held a special place in her heart for her beloved feline companion, Missy.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the entire staff of Sunrise Assisted Living of Wilmington and Heartland Hospice Pike Creek for the exceptional care they provided.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Roop was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Roop, Sr.; 4 brothers, and 2 sisters. She is survived by her children, Becky Harrison of Claymont, DE, Cathy Halliday of New Castle, DE, Trish Geary (Bob) of Millsboro, DE, R. Lee Roop, Jr. (Tammy) of Bear, DE, David Roop of Wilmington, DE, Donna McConnell (Tony) of Townsend, DE; 9 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 6 pm until 8 pm on Friday evening, June 24, 2016 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, 19720. Interment will be held privately in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faithful Friends, 12 Germay Drive, Wilmington, DE, 19804.

    I was saddened to learn of the loss of your dear Juanita. She struggled so hard for so long, but I am hoping that she is now at rest. Her kindness and compassion will remain with all of us who have been privileged to know her. She was such a lovely person who has made Delaware a better place to live.

    I only hope the many wonderful memories will comfort you during this period of loss. Please know that there are countless others of us who are sharing in your grief.
