Julia S. Liang (Chang Shu-Cheng), age 87, of Newark, DE, died peacefully on Thursday, March 18, 2010, at Churchman Village.
Born in Anhui Province, China, on December 25, 1922, Mrs. Liang earned her bachelors degree in chemical engineering in 1945 from Ta Tung University in Shanghai, and began her career as a chemist with the Wuhan (China) Chemical Company. Mrs. Liang taught at Taipei Technical College from 1949-1959. After immigrating to the United States in 1959, she accepted a position as a research chemist at the Sloan Kettering Institute in New York. In 1968, she earned her masters degree in chemistry from the Polytechnic Institute of NYU. Mrs. Liang taught chemistry at the university level in Taiwan from 1978 to 1985 before retiring in Wilmington, DE. She then devoted much of her time to the art of pottery.
Her husband, Paul Y. Liang, died in 1977. A devoted mother and grandmother, she is survived by her son, Paul H. Liang and his wife, Bridget A. Brennan, of Newark; and her grandchildren, Daniel and Lily, who were the center of her world.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Thursday, March 25, 2010, at Holy Angels R.C. Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will be held privately.
