Kenny M. Vandegrift

Born February 16, 1964

Kenny M. Vandegrift, age 53, of Fenwick Island, DE, and formerly of Delaware City, DE, passed away unexpectedly due to a massive heart attack, on Sunday, June 18, 2017.

A lifelong Delawarean, Kenny was born in Wilmington on February 16, 1964, and was the son of Frank W. Vandegrift, Sr. and Dorothy (Wright) Vandegrift. He attended Gunning Bedford Middle School and was a graduate of William Penn High School, where he was a standout athlete and member of the wrestling team. In his younger years, the ocean was Kenny’s life and he spent many happy hours there surfing and skimboarding. He was a self-taught and exceptionally talented carpenter, who made his career as a professional handyman.

In his leisure time, Kenny enjoyed riding his motorcycles, fishing, crabbing, completing home improvement projects, and spending time with family and friends. He loved cooking and barbecuing and was always trying his hand at new recipes. Kenny was an accomplished bargain hunter who relished the challenge of finding unique items and a great deal wherever he shopped. An avid football fan, he was a passionate supporter of the Miami Dolphins. Above all else, Kenny was a devoted caregiver to his parents and his father’s right hand man. He will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Vandegrift. Kenny is survived by his parents, Dorothy and Frank Vandegrift, Sr.; brother, Frank Vandegrift, Jr. and his wife, Shridevi (Dee); sister-in-law, Nancy Vandegrift; niece, Heather; faithful canine companion, Ozzy; and a host of loving family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 309 Clinton Street, Delaware City, DE. Interment will be private.
