Died: 11/13/2010

Mr. Kirke Neil Mitchell, age 49, of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mr. Mitchell was born in Worcester, MA, on January 20, 1961, and later moved to Delaware with his family, where he earned his bachelors degree in animal science from the University of Delaware. He began his career as a chemist with the DuPont Company, but his lifelong fascination with model trains led him to establish the commercial website Justrains.com, which specializes in unique model trains and accessories and has a worldwide clientele. Building on the success of his website, he later opened his retail shop, Trains and Hobbies, currently located in the Newark Shopping Center.

Active with his sons in Boy Scouts of America for many years, Mr. Mitchell was greatly involved with and accompanied the troop on three BSA High Adventure outings. As an avid boater, he spent many summers fishing and relaxing on the Northeast River. He shared with his daughter, Anna, his talent for cooking and baking. He also shared with his children his love for animals, including his pets, Laddie and Ziggy, and his passion for the New England Patriots.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Julie M. Knox Mitchell; his children whom he adored, Daniel, Adam, Christopher, and Anna Mitchell; mother, Nancy K. Benjamin Benoit (Walter); father, Neil Fongeallaz (Charlene); brother, Neil Fongeallaz, Jr.; sister, Nicole Stoessel (Dave); brothers- and sisters-in-law, Laurie Jobst (Gernot), Drs. Barry and Lois Knox, Dr. Robert and Tammy Knox, and Joanne Knox; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Friday, November 19, 2010, at Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, 454 Bow Street, Elkton, MD, where visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Entombment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Mitchell may be made to Del-Mar-Va Council, Boy Scouts of America, 100 W. 10th Street, Suite 915, Wilmington, DE 19801; or to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702 B Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.
