Mr. Lars Gamborg-Nielsen, age 63, of Newark, DE, left the earth to be with his Lord and Savior suddenly on Thursday, May 26, 2011.
Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on March 28, 1948, Lars was the son of the the late Karl and Fernanda (Pedersen) Gamborg-Nielsen. He came to the United States in 1952. Talented in all forms of building repair, Lars was employed in the maintenance division of Apartment Communities Corporation for 29 years. He later accepted a position as a professional driver with Roadrunner Express, where he retired in 2010.
Lars was a devoted family man throughout his life and delighted more than anything else in spending time with his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren, as well as his many good friends. He especially enjoyed vacations at the familys beach house. Other favorite hobbies included collecting HO model trains and listening to classic doo-wop music groups.
Active in his community, Lars was a longtime member of the Danish Brotherhood of America and a 38-year volunteer with Girl Scouts of America.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 42 years, Millie; daughters, Dana Henderson and her husband, Wes, and Tina Jones and her husband, Bill; brother, Mogens and his wife, Myrna; grandchildren, Steven, Kaitlyn, Daniel, Joshua, and Logan; and mother- and father-in-law, Hazel and David Birney.
Visitation will be held from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Friday, June 3, 2011, at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 1700 Limestone Road, Wilmington, where a second visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Interment will follow in Silverbrook Memorial Park, Lancaster Ave. and DuPont Rd., Wilmington.
