Laura Lilly Paino
Mrs. Laura Lilly Paino, age 85, of Smyrna, DE, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at her home after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
A native Delawarean, Mrs. Paino was born in Smyrna on April 8, 1926, daughter of the late Catherine and John McNatt. She was a graduate of Smyrna High School and, early in her career, was the owner of the former Olivers Salon and Beauty in Cortland, NY. She had also been employed as an operator with AT&T for 20 years and as the assistant to the CEO of Smith Corona.
Known fondly by family and her many young friends as Aunt Laura, Mrs. Paino was a beloved figure in the local community, well-known, admired, and truly loved by all. She was a longtime member of St. Josephs parish, where she had been active in many church ministries over the years.
In her leisure hours, Mrs. Paino greatly enjoyed card games and was especially skilled at playing three-card poker.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, Joseph T. Paino; daughter, Laura Logan and husband, Michael; brother, Freddie McNatt; sisters, Mabel Lohman, Joan Simmons, and Sadie Groch; grandsons, Francis and Ryan; great granddaughter, Sydnie; a host of nieces and nephews, including Marty Paino, Katie Gearinger and husband, Mitch, Sherri Leslie and husband, Roger, Doug Harris, and Willie Simmons; and great nephews, Joey, Jeffrey, and Johnny.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 6 pm on Friday, August 19, 2011, at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 371 E. Main Street, Middletown, where visitation will begin at 4 pm. A committal service will be held at 10 am on Monday, August 22, 2011, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
