Laura Rauch Weaver
Mrs. Laura Rauch Weaver, age 93, of New Castle, DE, died on Friday, April 9, 2010, at the Compassionate Care Hospice Wing of St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, DE. Born in Winburne, PA on May 24, 1916, Mrs. Weaver was one of nine children of the late Emil Rauch and Martha Minke Rauch. She was raised in Winburne and later married Ralph W. Weaver of Port Matilda, PA. They moved to Philadelphia and then to Delaware, where Mrs. Weaver became a member of Faith Lutheran Church in 1953. She was employed in the housekeeping department of the former Memorial Hospital for 13 years until her retirement in 1968. She loved to travel with her late husband and enjoyed spending time at their summer home in Winburne. She also enjoyed swimming, reading and gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph, who died in 2001, and four sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her children, Randall C. Weaver (Elaine) of New Castle, DE; James E. Weaver of Shasta, CA; and Barbara A. Weaver (companion, Eugene Taylor) of New Castle, DE; sister, Leona Shocksnyder of Brooklyn, MI; brother, Arthur Rauch (Florence) of Garden City, MI; grandchildren, Beverly Weaver Lanning (Steve) of Shasta, CA; Ruth Weaver Ascherman (Brian) of Alturas, CA; Rebeckah Weaver of Shasta, CA; David Weaver of Shasta, CA; and Dr. Lara Weaver (Todd Helwig) of Northborough, MA; great grandchildren, Bryan Lanning, Angela Ascherman, Ariel Ascherman, Claire Helwig, and Audrey Helwig; and sisters-in-law. Mildred Weaver and Esther Woodring, both of Port Matilda, PA. Friends may call from 5 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, April 15, 2010 in the chapel at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE where friends may call after 1 pm. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.
