Leah F. Cameron, age 91, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 22, 2015.

Born in Berwick, PA on June 24, 1924, Leah was a daughter of the late Willard H. Bailey and Fayetta A. (Cooper) Bailey. She was a 1942 graduate of Berwick High School and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Delaware. Leah’s 40 year career began at the Wise Potato Chip Company and the American Can and Foundry Company in Berwick. She then held a civil service position at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. After relocating to Delaware with her family, Leah accepted a position in the Philadelphia Ordnance District at the Chrysler Tank Plant. When the plant closed, she began teaching business education at William Penn High School, retiring in 1982.

Leah was active in several professional organizations including the Eastern Education Association, the Delaware State Business Teacher’s Association, where she served as past president and Delta Kappa Gamma, where she served as past president of the Epsilon Chapter. She was an active member of Eastern Star Chapter #10 of Newark where she held many offices over the years, including Worthy Grand Matron of Delaware. Strong in her faith, Leah was a longtime member of the Newark Baptist Church in Elkton. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, bowling and golf in her leisure time.

In addition to her parents, Leah was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Cameron who passed away in 1992; a son, Robert Cameron, Jr.; brother, Willard Bailey; and sister, Winifred Yerges. She is survived by her son, David Cameron (Brenda) of Newark; daughter in law, Sharon Cameron of Hockessin; grandchildren, Ginger Cameron, Robert Cameron III, Christina Netta (Matthew) and Amanda Cameron; and 3 great grandchildren, Robert IV, Nicole and Katelyn.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday morning, August 26, 2015, at the Newark Baptist Church, 6011 Telegraph Road, Elkton, MD, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in Head of Christiana Cemetery, Nottingham Road, Newark, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Leah’s name may be made to the Newark Baptist Church, P.O. Box 5839, Newark, DE 19714.

  • I was saddened to read of the loss of your loved one. When we
    lose our loved one in death it is the most difficult
    time in our life. However, there is loving
    comfort in Psalms 55:22 to “throw your burden on God
    and he will sustain you..” Yes, no matter what you are facing
