Lela Mary Gildersleeve, age 60, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 4, 2017.

A native Delawarean, Lela was born in Wilmington on March 27, 1957, and was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Biliski) Gildersleeve. She devoted her life to raising her children and was a talented homemaker.

An exceptional cook, Lela relished creating delicious meals for her family and friends. A doting grandmother, she adored spending time with and caring for her grandchildren. Lela loved animals of all kinds and shared a special bond with her faithful canine companions, Ashley, Bean, and Redman. Above all else, she was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be very dearly missed by all.

In addition to her parents, Lela was preceded in death by her sisters, Irene Woodrow, Franceis Carnley, and Susan Nardinocchi; and grandson, Tamulah O’Connor. She is survived by her children, Jessica O’Connor of Wilmington, Jason Gildersleeve (Nicole) of New Castle, and Reanna Gildersleeve of New Castle; brother, John Gildersleeve (Connie) of Newark; sister, Rose Rivers of Santa Claus, GA; uncle, Charlie Biliski of Wilmington; grandchildren, Warren, Aliyah, Jason, Sidonni, Theo, Jahsan, Tiasha, Jessiah, Ja’Bre, Alonni, and Joshua; and great grandchildren, Stephen and Journey.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 7 pm until 11 pm on Friday evening, July 14, 2017, at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 415 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE. Services and interment will be private.
