Leonard B. Stanley
Mr. Leonard B. Len Stanley, age 79, of New Castle, DE, died on Monday, March 21, 2011, at Christiana Hospital.
A native Delawarean, Mr. Stanley was born in Wilmington on May 29, 1931, son of the late Horace Stanley and Bemis Lee Stanley. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Korean War. In civilian life, he made his career with the Diamond State Telephone Company, where he held many different positions and retired after over 35 years of service.
Mr. Stanley remained active in veterans organizations throughout his life, including J. Allison ODaniel Post 475, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Newark, and David C. Harrison Post 14, American Legion, in Smyrna. He was also a longtime member of the St. Anthonys Club and the Delaware City Recreation Club. For many years, he was well known for his impressive skills as a championship-caliber pool player.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharyn Thompson, sisters, Olive Beebe and Ruth Dodd, and twin brother, Horace Stanley. He is survived by his beloved wife of 6 1/2 years, Nancy C. Stanley; children, Trena Cook and Leonard B. Stanley II, both of Wilmington; stepchildren, David J. Frassico of Bear, Michael Frassico of New Castle, and Diane Greenawalt (Jeff) of Bear; 2 grandsons; 6 step grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; and a special nephew, Kenny Reed of Newark.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm on Sunday, March 27th, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Interment will be held privately. A celebration of Lens life will be announced at a future date.
