LeRoy A. Smith, Jr.

LeRoy A. Smith, Jr., age 91, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 19, 2016.

Born in Camden on Gauley, WV on August 8, 1924, LeRoy was a son of the late LeRoy A. and Alda (Case) Smith, Sr. A U.S. Navy veteran of WWII he proudly served aboard the USS Indianapolis. LeRoy was an auto worker at Chrysler in Newark and retired in 1982 after 30 years of dedicated service.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed watching classic western movies and listening to country music. A devoted Phillies fan, LeRoy never missed a televised game. He was a NASCAR enthusiast and looked forward to cheering on his favorite driver, Jimmy Johnson each season.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Alice (Walker) Smith; brother, Carl Smith; and step brother Eddie Smith. LeRoy is survived by his sister, Nedra Murphy of WV; niece and caregiver, Mary Anne Bryant, her husband, John, and their daughter, Courtney of Newark; sister-in-law, Ida Smith of Newport; and many nieces and nephews.

A committal service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
