On Saturday, June 25, 2011, Mrs. Lillian Winterringer Wesley, age 84, formerly of Penn Acres in New Castle, DE, went to be with her Lord and Savior, whom she served faithfully throughout her life.
Born in Miami, FL, on November 25, 1926, Lil was the daughter of James S. Winterringer, Sr. and Ethel U. Brant Winterringer. She grew up in Key Biscayne and later moved with her family to Pearl Harbor, HI, where she worked with the Civil Service during World War II. It was during her wartime service that she met her future husband, Fred Alton Wesley, Sr.
Lil and Fred had five children and lived in many states during the course of Freds career, including Kentucky, Florida, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Ohio, and finally, Delaware, where they were charter members of the Asbury United Methodist Church. As an active member of the church, Lil sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, played piano, served as church historian, and was active in the Ruth Circle. Throughout her busy life, she was a devoted wife, loving mother, and thrifty homemaker; her couponing and bread-baking skills were legendary.
Lil will be long remembered for her sweet smile, her loving and generous heart, and her selfless, giving spirit. She will be sadly missed by the many people who loved her.
In addition to her parents and her husband Fred, who died in 2006 after 60 years of marriage, Lil was preceded in death by her brother, James Winterringer, Jr., and her sister, Florence Foster. She is survived by her five children, Barbara Hayford (Richard M. Jr. Dick), Kathleen Reynolds (Robert Skip), Fred Wesley, Jr., Janet Keskemety, Ronald Wesley (Christine); her seven beloved grandchildren, Kelly Hayford Parker, Wesley Hayford, Jessica, Jason, and Jenna Keskemety, Alyssa and Brant Wesley; and her dear friend, Murray Faupel.
Visitation will be held from 5 pm to 7 pm on Friday, July 1, 2011, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 300 E. Basin Road, New Castle, 19720. Interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
