Mrs. Lily T. Bridge, age 91, of Bear, DE, formerly of New Castle, DE, died on Sunday, November 28, 2010, at Heartland Hospice House in Wilmington, DE.


Born in St. Louis, MO, on April 10, 1919, Mrs. Bridge was a daughter of the late Aloysius Boedeker and Helen Spreckelmeyer Boedeker. She made her career as a professional nurse and proudly served her country in the US Army during World War II as an operating room nurse stationed in the Aleutian Islands. Following her military service, she was employed for a time on an Indian reservation in Phoenix, AZ, before returning to her native St. Louis to accept a position as a nurse anesthetist at DePaul Hospital, working there until she married in 1958 and began to raise her family. Her professional affiliations included the American Nurses Association, the National Nurse Anesthetist Association, and the Catholic Nurses Association.


A devout Catholic throughout her life, Mrs. Bridge was a founding member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish and St. Margaret of Scotland parish and a former member of Holy Family parish.


Her beloved husband, Harry T. Bridge, died in 2004. She is survived by her sons, Harry T. Bridge, Jr. (Shelley) of Middletown, DE, David G. Bridge of Bear, DE, and Donald J. Bridge (Michele) of Middletown, DE; and grandchildren, Nathan, Sarah, Harry T. J.B., and Jessica.


Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 4, 2010, at St. Margaret of Scotland R.C. Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE, 19702, where visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Interment will be held privately.


In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Margaret of Scotland R.C. Church at the address above.
