Lois Jean (Webster) Mulrooney

Lois Jean (Webster) Mulrooney, age 80, of Wilmington, DE and a lifelong resident of Delaware, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Wilmington, DE, on September 26, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret (Woodall) Webster. Lois graduated from P.S. DuPont High School and while in school she took voice training. She was an accomplished singer as a coloratura soprano with performances in the Wilmington region. Lois started her catering career through St. Peter the Apostle Church in New Castle. Later she opened a catering business with two friends, BLT Caterers and eventually owned Cugina’s Sub Shop at 8th & DuPont Streets in Wilmington.

Lois loved being a homemaker and raising her children and grandchildren. Her home was always immaculate and welcomed visitors. Lois was a cheerleading coach and Girl Scout leader for several years. She enjoyed bus trips, attending musical shows, bingo and playing cards and her favorite pastime was visiting Delaware Park. Lois took classes for floral designing and used that talent to make arrangements for many events. Following retirement, she was an election judge for District 16. Lois converted to Catholicism and raised her children in Catholic schools, where she enjoyed volunteering, was a Sacristan and cooked meals for the rectory.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Paul Mulrooney and her dear aunt, Theresa Facciolo. Lois is survived by her children, Charles Mulrooney (Patricia) of Wilmington, DE, John Mulrooney (Elaine) of New Castle, DE, Sharon Sweeny of Felton, DE, and Donna Hajen (Daniel) of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren, Jeremy Mulrooney (Sarah), Sean Patrick Mulrooney, Brian Mulrooney (Angelina), Paul J. Mulrooney, Jeffrey Weaver, Jr. (Ashley), Justin Weaver, Kyle Hajen, Kaitlyn Penn (Ryan); 2 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Barbara Cresci (Joe); brother-in-law, David Mulrooney; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and dear friend, Betty Mahoney.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 1 pm until 3 pm on Sunday, October 7, 2018, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Monday, October 8, 2018, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. Entombment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.

  • I’m so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. I’ll always remember her doing fun things with all of us neighborhood kids, going to the drive in, games at parties, her great food. She always had an ear to listen and I will miss her.
