Lois R. Cleaver, age 79, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by her family, on Saturday, April 1, 2017.

Lois was born in Salem, NJ on March 28, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Vaughn V. and Mavis (Joslin) Russell. She made her career with the DuPont Company where she worked as an executive assistant to the president, retiring after 30 years of service.

Lois was an active member of the AARP. In her leisure time, she enjoyed traveling and especially loved road trips and visiting the beach. An avid University of Delaware football fan, Lois looked forward to cheering on the Blue Hens each season. She was a master needlepoint artist who will be remembered for her love of family gatherings and as a woman of particular taste.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Homer Sonny Orville Cleaver. Lois is survived by her brother, Robert Russell of FL; sister, Cynthia Gaines of DE; aunt, Flora Mae Markland of MO; niece, Danielle Faris of CO; nephews, Chris Gaines of VA and Kevin Russell of IL; grandchildren, Emily Lois Freter, Abigail Katherine Gaines, Gracie Virginia Gaines; and great-granddaughter Holland Elizabeth Faris and great-grandson, Emmett Freter.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Saturday morning, April 8, 2017 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will be private.
