Louis Peter Faverio, III - Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Homes & Crematory

Louis Peter Faverio, III

Born December 15, 1927

Louis Peter Faverio, III, age 86, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on Sunday, August 17, 2014.

Pete was born in Chester, PA on December 15, 1927 and was a son of the late Louis Peter, II and Mary Faverio. Pete was lovingly raised along with his brothers, Dan and Bob and sister, Doris. After serving as a paratrooper in the US Army Air Borne Division, he returned home to pursue his passion of baseball. In 1948, Pete was signed to a contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers AAA farm team where he was known as Pistol Pete and also played for a time in Japan while he was serving in the Army. He married the love of his life, Dolores Marie Platt on October 1, 1949. Following his baseball career, Pete accepted a position with the DuPont Company in 1956 where he perfected his craft as a sheet metal worker. He spent 29 years working for the company, retiring in 1985. Pete also worked at the Allied Steel Company.

He enjoyed his beach home of more than 45 years and the many friends he made there. Pete also enjoyed fishing and crabbing and could be found relaxing in the sun at the beach or in his own backyard. He loved the game of baseball, whether coaching his own sons in little league or watching his grandson, Peter and great-grandsons, Ethan and Jordan play the game. He was always a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. Pete liked playing horseshoes at family picnics, going to McDonald’s in the morning and shooting the bull with Tony, Steve and Rosemary. He enjoyed his afternoons at 4 pm with Mayor Jack, John B. and Dave and having a DU DA. Pete enjoyed life wherever he was and in the company of whomever he was with. He will be loved and missed by all and we can only hope to be a little bit like him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dan. Pete’s life achievement he was most proud of was his marriage of nearly 65 years to his beloved wife, Dolores M. Faverio and the 3 children they raised, Lorraine Lynn Grifantini (Frank) of Newark, DE, Wayne T. Faverio (Bonnie) of Bear, DE and Louis P. Faverio, IV (Sharon) of Bear, DE. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Faverio of Aston, PA; sister, Doris Stahl (Ted) of Brookhaven, PA; 3 granddaughters, Victoria (Ryan), Lauren (Dave) and Maria; grandson, Louis Peter Faverio, V (new bride, Katie); and 3 great grandsons, Ethan, Austin and Jordan.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 am until 11 am on Tuesday morning, August 26, 2014 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 am at the Church of the Nativity, 206 Sykes Road, Manor Park, New Castle, DE 19720. Interment will be held privately in the Chester Rural Cemetery, Chester, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Pete’s name may be made to the Church of the Nativity Building Fund at the address listed above.

  • Dear Pete, Sharon and Family,

We are sorry to hear about the loss of your loved one. It’s the little things, the small, everyday occurrences that you’ll remember. The laughs, the stories, the smiles. And even though it seems like you can never recover your loss, it is these very memories that will help push the pain away and bring back the smiles.

Thinking of you and your family during this difficult time.

John, Debbie, Kyle, and Kevin Carey

  • We are thinking about your whole family. We know it will be difficult for you but you have lots of great memories you can look back on. Dave told us about Pete’s condition and we’ve been pulling for him since we heard. We are neighbors but too many houses in between to be close but not that far away to not remember waves from Pete as we drove by over the past 58 years.
Blessings to you all from our family to yours.
    Fondly, Don and Nancy Aukamp

  • I miss you already PopPop. I know you were with us tonight as we had out first family gathering without you 🙁 it was weird but we have peace in knowing that you’re no longer in pain or suffering. Thank you for letting me and my precious cousin maria take care of you in your last stage of life. You trusted us enough to not turn away from us. We gathered lots of strength from the family YOU STARTED and that’s what kept us going and got us through. It was the hardest I’ve done in my life yet! I’ll never forget it as long as I live and I couldn’t of done it all without the love of my family. Thank you for saving everything I’ve ever made you and thank you for loving me and my boys so much, even though you would respond with “ahhhhh I love ya too honey…I guess” lol… That later changed to “I love you” 2 days before you took your last breath. I’ll always remember that. Your tears saying goodbye 1 min before your last breath, cause you could no longer speak, was confirmation that you were there listening to all of us and we can take that moment with us forever. Thank you and I love you so much and will miss you. Love your #1 granddaughter and Nurse.
