Lucy Fontello Lestardo, age 88, of New Castle, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 21, 2013.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware on April 7, 1925, Lucy was the daughter of the late Anthony and Lena Fontello. She worked as a meat wrapper for the former A&P Food Stores, retiring after many years of dedicated service.
Lucy was a member of the Howard Weston Senior Center and a longtime parishioner at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, playing cards at the senior center, and trips to Lancaster, PA. Above all else, Lucy adored family gatherings with those she held closest in her heart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John A. Lestardo; brothers, Dominick and James Fontello; and granddaughter, Melissa LaMonica Heller. She is survived by her daughters, Christine Saville and Jane M. Heller (Gary); brother, Andrew Fontello; sister, Mary Cassetta; grandchildren, Christopher Heller and John Saville (Julie) and; great granddaughters, Samantha and Amanda Saville; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 am on Monday, October 28, 2013, at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 801 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where friends may call from 10:30 am until 11:30 am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Howard J. Weston Senior Center, 1 Bassett Avenue, Manor Park, New Castle, DE 19720.
