May 31, 1934 - September 1, 2017

Luella Mary West, age 83, of Newark, DE, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2017 after a brief illness.  Luella, affectionately known as Lou, was born on May 31, 1934, to Arthur W. and Alice Freda (Miller) Keiner, in Mountaintop, PA.

She graduated from Fairview High School in 1952, a class of 17 students.  Lou went on to become a bank teller before marrying Frederick G. West, Jr., the love of her life and, together, had three children, Frederick G. III, MaryLou, and Barbara.  She was a fiercely devoted mother and grandmother, never missing a special event (especially cheering on her kids at Glasgow High School), and is quoted as saying she had the best children and grandchildren with whom she was so incredibly proud.  Lou’s large circle of friends is evidence of her commitment to those who were so important to her “ she made friends for life.  She was a charter member of the Newark Charitable and Social Club, and enjoyed the events and friendships made at the Newark Senior Center.  A proud cancer survivor, Lou enjoyed taking cruises with family and friends, trying her luck at the casino, playing weekly Mah Jongg, reading (sometimes three books at a time), going out to lunch, and shopping.  We envision Lou and Fred spending what would have been their 55
